We allowed her our back yard
to play in. It was a game she played
alone with her child's used nappies.
We recognised her darkness
from a long way off, knew its intent;
constructed as swift as a spell
barriers of kind thoughts.
We watched her thin pretences fall away.
Her nakedness scared the dog,
attracted the devil's magpie.
